Mindfulness in Schools Project

Mindfulness in Schools Project (MiSP) is a not-for-profit charity for young people and schools. Their aim is to improve the lives of a generation of children and young people by making a genuine, positive difference to their mental health and wellbeing, enabling them not ‘just get by’ but to positively flourish.

The Sanctuary is delighted to have been working in partnership with the UK based MiSP (Mindfulness in Schools Project) over the past number of years, running training courses that enable school staff and others working in youth-based fields to teach the .b  classroom-based mindfulness programme for 11-18 year olds and the Paws b curriculum for 7-11 year-olds.

An Outline Of The Courses Available

What is .b?

.b is a 10 session course for young people aged 11-18, delivered in the classroom or in small groups within other youth-related settings.

.b has primarily been designed for use in the classroom with what we would call ‘conscript’ audiences of 11-18 year olds, although it can also be used equally effectively in other settings.

At the most simple level .b is an awareness-raising exercise to give all students a taste of mindfulness so that they know about it and can return to it later in life if they think it might help. However, for many pupils the course can relatively quickly lead to very positive outcomes: they feel calmer and more fulfilled; they can concentrate better; they have a toolkit to deal with stress and anxiety. Objectives and outcomes are discussed in more detail below.

We have a number of Train to Teach .b courses coming up over the next 12 months, including:

Sat 16th Nov & Sun 17th Nov and Sat 23rd Nov & Sun 24th Nov. This is a four day course spread over two weekends.

Sat 7th Mar 2020 & Sun 8th Mar 2020 and Sat 21 Mar 2020 & Sun 22nd Mar. This is a four day course spread over two weekends.

Monday 29th June 2020 to Thursday 2nd July 2020.

What is Paws b?

Paws b is a leading mindfulness curriculum for children aged 7 -11 in schools.

The lessons are flexible and varied and can be taught as 12 x 30-minute or 1-hour lessons. Learning from all of the lessons is encouraged to be connected to other aspects of the school curriculum where and when appropriate, such as music, sport, art, drama, queuing to come into the classroom, school and residential trips, to name just a few possibilities.

Our next Paws. b at the Sanctuary course takes place on Mon 6th July 2020 – Fri 10th July 2020, 9am to 5pm each day.

What is .b Foundations?

.b Foundations is a course designed by Mindfulness in Schools Project (MiSP) for school staff to train in mindfulness.

If a more mindful culture in schools is to become a reality, a groundswell of staff exploring and practising mindfulness is essential.

MiSP created .b Foundations for this purpose. Offering a fresh take on the traditional 8-week MBSR/CT curriculum and approach we aim to make mindfulness as accessible and effective as possible for adults in school settings.

Our next .b Foundations course takes place on Tues 24th Sept – Tues 19th Dec 2019, 7pm to 9pm.
