Mindfulness Programmes for Schools

The Sanctuary is committed to the mental health and wellbeing of young people and has a number or courses and programmes designed to help youth develop and sustain resiliency and the ability to flourish.

Whether it be through delivering our Warrior programme to DEIS schools, or training teachers to Teach the Warrior programme or training teachers to Teach the Mindfulness in Schools Project’s .b and Paws b progammes, we are able to deliver mindfulness and wellbeing tools to those that need it most.

Moreover our Awareness Days offers Secondary students the opportunity to visit The Sanctuary and experience a retreat day based in mindfulness and reflection within the tranquil setting of The Sanctuary and its gardens.

In 2017, there was a report on ‘Positive Mental Health in Schools’ issued by the Houses of the Oireachtas which issued a call for additional support for teachers in a bid to address the mental wellbeing of students.  The report highlights a study conducted by the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland (2011) that found that by the age of 13, 1 in 3 young people will have encountered a mental disorder of some sort.

In response to this situation, the Sanctuary has developed a selection of courses specifically designed to help teachers introduce mindfulness to their schools. We can deliver these courses at your school, or you can visit us in the gentile setting of the Sanctuary. In this way, we hope to bring the skills and resources that might be needed to help nurture the wellbeing of young people and in particular those who have met mental health difficulties or have been struggling to cope with school life.
