Welcome to The Sanctuary

The Art Of Compassion:
Self Compassion for Wellbeing

Compassion can be defined quite simply as the ability to recognize, move towards and be with suffering, with an intention to relieve it. Compassion is an action. It has the potential to empower. Whether it is your own suffering or the suffering of another, it is resisting the urge to look away. Instead, it is a’ turning towards’ with an open heart and a deep wish to relieve suffering in a bid to help ourselves and others flourish.

The wonderful news is that research shows that compassion can not only be learned, but it can cultivated through practice and training. This 5 week course is an introduction into the practice of training in compassion.

1/2 Day of Yoga Practice with Riana

This half day of practice provides the time and space to experience our Mindful Yoga practice more deeply. We begin with body scan and breath awareness practices, then gentle energising before transitioning into the physical practice of yoga..

You are invited to navigate your unique and individual pathway through the practice with breath as a constant guide, and ahimsa (kindness, gentleness, compassion) as attitude. With movement and breath aligned we experience our yoga practice as a balanced vibrancy in a space between ease and effort, gentleness and strength..

We complete our practice by immersing in the stillness of an iRest® Yoga Nidra guided meditation and deep relaxation to re-emerge relaxed and renewed.
This 3 hour practice is designed to suit all levels, and there is a light refreshment break mid-way through the session.

The Mindfulness In Schools Project Returns For 2019

The UK based Mindfulness in Schools Project’s vision is that every child possesses the skills to help them manage difficulty and flourish, and an understanding of how and when to use those skills.

The Sanctuary is delighted to have been working in partnership with the UK based MiSP (Mindfulness in Schools Project) over the past number of years, bringing the teacher trainer for mindfulness-based .b [dot-be] programme for 11-18 year olds to Ireland.

The Cuan Programme

Thursday February 1st saw the start of The Cuan Programme, formally known as The Jigsaw Programme.

The CUAN programme and activities at the Sanctuary are underway. As the garden changes and evolves, the Cuan Programme formerly known as the Jigsaw Programme has been developing, changing and is now back in full swing. In fact, we have changed the name of the programme to reflect the new expanded offering.

Testimonials

“The Sanctuary is an oasis in the urban noise, a place for solitude, connection, growth and healing. At a time when so many of us are living busy lives, the need for quiet spaces to rest, reflect and reconnect has never been more important. Sr Stan and the team at the Sanctuary have been blazing a trail for almost thirty years. They have been leading lights in the introduction of mindfulness and meditation to Ireland. I’d love to see a Sanctuary centre in every town and village in Ireland.”

– Ruairí McKiernan is a social campaigner and member of the Council of State.

We are just around the corner from Smithfield Square.
