Taking Stock

In January and February the garden grows in silence, the growth hidden from the gardener’s view. Sr Stan writes about taking stock in the new year.

Down under the soil, where the earth is warm even when frosts harden down in the ground, the roots are already preparing for spring, life is stirring in the depths. The gardener knows that in spite of the barren aspect of the garden, the bulbs are preparing to make their adventure into the world of light.

For the gardener, this is a time of planning and looking forward, for dreaming of possibilities and planning the summer garden.

Feb 4th: The Mystic With John Doherty

John Doherty has been teaching for the last twenty five years in the area of adult education. He wears two professional hats, one teaching in the area of mindfulness, meditation and contemplation and two working as a professional support and development supervisor, supporting people in their work and how it impacts on them.

Having studied and practiced in a number of the world’s religious traditions he has a passion for the inner mystical journey and what that looks like in a modern setting. He is particularly informed by Jungian psychology and the idea of embodied spirituality through meditation and movement work and feels that the spiritual journey should be inviting us to be ever more human.

Feb 10th: Chakras & Other
Pathways with Judith King

Judith King will facilitate us reconnecting with our bodies through old and new systems of knowing – like – the map of the Chakras; movement; connection to nature, creativity and meditation.

We are luckily living in a time of increased awareness and knowledge about our body’s ways and patterns. After hundreds of years of dedicating superiority to the mind and almost trying to live in our heads alone, we are back to realizing that it is all one – head, body, mind, heart, spirit – we care for the whole interconnecting field of being that our body is or we are only half living our lives.

If you want to feel more at home in your body then join us for a relaxing day of attention and care to body wisdom.

Testimonials

“The Sanctuary is a an oasis in the urban noise, a place for solitude, connection, growth and healing. At a time when so many of us are living busy lives, the need for quiet spaces to rest, reflect and reconnect has never been more important. Sr Stan and the team at the Sanctuary have been blazing a trail for almost thirty years. They have been leading lights in the introduction of mindfulness and meditation to Ireland. I’d love to see a Sanctuary centre in every town and village in Ireland.”

– Ruairí McKiernan is a social campaigner and member of the Council of State.

“I have found The Sanctuary to be a quiet, nourishing space to come to in the heart of Dublin. I undertook the 3 month mindfulness course which helped me cope with significant surgery and medical treatment. I continue to attend the half day mindfulness monthly to help me develop and incorporate mindfulness into my daily routine and existence.

I have found all the facilitators to be approachable and knowledgeable. The Sanctuary has and continues to nourish my spirit and enrich my life. Mindfulness allows me cope better with life’s challenges. ”

– Joyce Loughnan is the former CEO of Focus Ireland and a member of the International Women’s Forum.
