Zen monk Rev. Myozan Kodo is a recognized teacher in the Soto Zen tradition of Japanese Buddhism. His 6 week, Thursday evening introductory course will introduce you to the ethics and philosophy of this ancient spiritual tradition.
In this blog post ahead of it starting on April 27th he talks about his return to teaching at The Sanctuary.
I always think of The Sanctuary as a still point in the turning city of Dublin; a place of calm in a frantic world, with an atmosphere like an old hermitage or monastery in the mountains.
The Sanctuary invites you to this night weaving meditation, mindfulness and music into an evening of stillness, creativity, spirituality.
Singer Luka Bloom will be joined by Bro Richard OFM Cap, Sanctuary founder Sr. Stan and guests
The event takes place on Tuesday 23rd May 2017 from 8.15pm – 9.45pm in Capuchin Friary, Church Street, Dublin 7.
Admission will be through donation on the night. Further details here.
The Sanctuary Mindful Warrior Programme is one that enables young people to travel a safe, mindful path on the journey from child to adult.
The Sanctuary is now offering a training course for facilitators/teachers/youth workers who work with young people to enable them to deliver this programme in their own school or centre.
The programme is one of the core mindfulness-based programmes developed for young people at the Sanctuary.
This six workshop course with Jole Bortoli starts again on May 8th. It aims to allow ourselves to be creative by tapping into our imagination, trusting and enjoying the process.
Each workshop will be facilitated through painting, drawing and a variety of materials, in a relaxed and non-judgmental atmosphere. Over the weeks each participant will be guided to develop a personal theme and will be encouraged in their own unique individual style.

“The Sanctuary is a an oasis in the urban noise, a place for solitude, connection, growth and healing. At a time when so many of us are living busy lives, the need for quiet spaces to rest, reflect and reconnect has never been more important. Sr Stan and the team at the Sanctuary have been blazing a trail for almost thirty years. They have been leading lights in the introduction of mindfulness and meditation to Ireland. I’d love to see a Sanctuary centre in every town and village in Ireland.”

“I have found The Sanctuary to be a quiet, nourishing space to come to in the heart of Dublin. I undertook the 3 month mindfulness course which helped me cope with significant surgery and medical treatment. I continue to attend the half day mindfulness monthly to help me develop and incorporate mindfulness into my daily routine and existence.
I have found all the facilitators to be approachable and knowledgeable. The Sanctuary has and continues to nourish my spirit and enrich my life. Mindfulness allows me cope better with life’s challenges. ”
