Ever caught yourself cursing the driver in front of you while on your way to church or synagogue or yoga? Or found yourself incapable of praise or gratefulness while washing a stack of someone else’s dishes? How do we navigate from personal contemplative practice to daily life and vice versa? Reading and writing poems can be a transformative art that helps us weave together the gritty particulars of our daily lives and the ethereal truths we glimpse in our spiritual practices. But it’s not the poems themselves that create the connective tissue, it’s the process of cultivating curiosity and opening to reflection. In this process-forward three-week playshop, we’ll practice self-compassion, wonder, and embodied attentiveness as we read, write and converse about poems. Sharing in small groups will be totally optional. There will also be a chance to stay in the main room and talk (or listen in on conversation) about process.
Topics covered in our time together will include:
